Consumer product containers

Shorting the contents (see post below re Hellman’s Mayonnaise) isn’t the only thing consumer product manufacturers are doing to annoy me.  I recently tried a new brand of yogurt, which I liked, until I realized that several unnecessary ridges in the container prevented me from extracting all of the contents with my spoon.  Why would a manufacturer do this?  I know that it is important to differentiate one’s product, but why use a method that creates consumer frustration?  Why not just sell a demonstrably better product?
